This past weekend Wes and I had a little fun. We bought some pumpkins and got to carving. My initial idea was a "Martha" idea. It was a polka-dot pumpkin...extremely cute. Now on her show Friday Martha showed how easy it was to take a melon baller and carve out these adorable circles in a pumpkin. I proceeded to clean out my pumpkin, all the while thinking how dog-on cute my finished product was going to be. Well, the first circle looked good, a little large, but still decent. The second circle however proved that this "polka-dot" pumpkin was not to be. In the end my two melon-baller circles became eyes on my "special" pumpkin. Wes and I affectionately named him Fred.
Wes' pumpkin turned out perfectly. It's spooky, yet charming. He of course took 30 minutes to carve his...mister perfectionist. While he was ever-so-carefully creating his jack-o-latern I became more and more determined to make a polka-dot pumpkin. After some digging in kitchen drawers the meat thermometer became a tool for stabbing the crap out of my pumpkin.
Wes and I had a lot of fun with our Sunday afternoon craft session. And remember, don't use a melon-baller if you want a polka-dot pumpkin! That's a task only Martha can undertake.
Happy Halloween!
